Where are we going today?
Today we’re going to this place, Refosian. It’s one of the most famous silk fabric shops in China. This picture was taken in 1928. I wonder what it looks like now.
I did some research. Refosian has a long history. It was founded in 1862 in Shandong. Today we’re visiting its first shop in Beijing, opened in 1893.
Refosian is well-known for its top quality silk. The first national flag of the People’s Republic of China, raised over Tian’anmen Square in 1949, was made of Refosian’s silk cloth.
Yeah! They also make traditional Chinese clothing. Some of their techniques are part of Beijing’s intangible cultural heritage. I wonder if I could try on a qipao today.

Well, THAT was definitely the best experience I’ve ever had inside a fitting room. It felt like I was wearing a piece of history. Now I hate my regular clothes. But probably this is unfair. Who says the T-shirt I’m wearing now wouldn’t become another piece of history?
